Natural Selection

Natural Selection:

In my science class we did a lab about natural selection. We had to use different tools that represented different beaks. As we worked in pairs we competed against each other by taking seeds out of 1 bowl. Whoever made it passed average 13 seeds then you would move up to the next level. Whoever didn't make it they would become extinct. Our teacher then explained what the purpose was of the activity. He said that variation relates to this lab because there were different types of "beaks". This relates to competition because we were competing for food. This relates to struggle for survival because we would try to eat as much food as we could in order to survive. This lab relates to because the "beaks" had to adapt to their environment and learn to survive. He also said that this was natural selection. Natural Selection: When over periods of time animals adapt to their environment by changing their bodies to fit where they live.

Mitosis

Mitosis

In my science class we learned about how mitosis happens. We had to use pipe cleaners and string to represent the process. We all drew circles to represent the cell and use two small pieces of pipe cleaners to show the chromosome. The first stage it is interphase, here none of the chromosomes show. The second stage is prophase the chromosomes begin to show. The third stage is metaphase, here the chromosomes line up and they are about to separate fourth stage is anaphase, here the chromosomes separate. The final stage is telophase, here the now separated sister chromosomes are in the nucleus. Now there are two cells. Mitosis: When cells reproduce to makes more.

My ScIeNcE LaBs

In my science class our teacher gave us a lab to do. We had to guess what was in a box without opening it (each box had a letter marking it). As we worked in pairs we came up with a battery, a marble, and a ball. We put our ideas to the test by putting either one of each object into an empty box. We evaluated what was not possible. Then we notice that the object seem to hit something and then roll down. We concluded that something else was in the box. Then our science teacher asked us if each letter said something. Everyone with the same letter got into a group. As we argued what we each thought was in the box, we all had one thing straighten out. The thing that we thought was extra in the box was a triangular shape. We did this by trying to following the object in the direction it went in. Now we just had to figure out what was in the box. Our teacher gave out magnets and told us to see if the object to magnetic. It was. Afterwards we realized that the object was a metal ball. At the end our teacher showed us what was inside of each letter box.
